Facing Fear
If you like this track by Kim Walker-Smith, I think you’re going to love “Facing Fear.”
Inside Outside
If you like this track by Paula Cole, I think you’re going to love “Inside Outside.”
Mercy Again
If you like this track by Sting, I think you’re going to love “Mercy Again.”
P.S. My producer and I describe “Mercy Again” as my version of a choir song. If you grew up in church like me, “Mercy Again” will also remind you of this Richard Smallwood song, which we used as a drum reference.
Lyrics aside, gospel music has some of the most beautiful harmonies and progressions across genre (in my opinion), so be sure to take a listen either way.
This song is a cover of “Mountains High” by defunct English Christian rock band Delirious? (Yes, the question mark is actually a part of the band name.)
Mountains High
Check out the original version here as a sneak peek of what’s to come from my reimagined version.
Unsteady
“Unsteady” draws heavily from my film music influences. If you like Howard Shore (Lord of the Rings) and Hans Zimmer (Gladiator), I think you’ll love the instrumentation of this song.
Grace
Conceptually, “Grace” serves as the resolve for “Mountains High” and “Unsteady.” The song – perhaps most memorable for its epic orchestral elements – marks a turning point for the album.
Made Of
As inspiration for “Made Of,” I looked to one of my biggest influences, Tori Amos. During the creative process, my producer and I used instrumentation from songs like “Liquid Diamonds” as a reference.
By Your Side
This lovely track by Natalie Walker captured the dreamy, ethereal, piano-driven sound that I envisioned for “By Your Side.”
Flatline
This Tori Amos track captured the unhinged, industrial sound that I envisioned for “Flatline” based on the song’s dark themes.
The Start
I wanted the closing song on the album to have an intimate-epic vibe with minimal drums that felt nostalgic. This Tori Amos track from her recent album captured the energy that I envisioned for “The Start.”
